Miko

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 7 years

Miko originally came from the international animal welfare and was surrendered because he had bitten multiple times in the past. At the animal shelter, he is compatible with other male dogs and female dogs, but due to his behavior towards people, he should be kept as an individual dog. If he feels threatened, he reacts with clear aggression. However, he wears his muzzle reliably and will need it in various situations in everyday life. Miko is a very sensitive dog who needs dog-experienced people who are calm and on whom he can orient himself. He already knows some basic commands and is house-trained. He knows how to ride in the car, jumps into the car box, and is quiet during the ride. He is also well-leash trained and loves water very much. Our Miko is not a cuddly dog but wants to be near his trusted people. He enjoys spending the break with his animal caretakers at the animal shelter. He has trouble dealing with stress and frustration and needs good management, for example, during feeding. He defends resources and his territory. Miko is not a dog for a turbulent life in the city or a multi-family house where he regularly meets people in a small space in the hallway and/or elevator, from which he cannot retreat. It is difficult for him to simply endure situations. Therefore, he needs a home in a more rural, quiet environment in a house or an apartment with a separate entrance. Prospective owners should plan several visits to get to know Miko, as he needs time to build trust – he is initially unsure and mistrustful of strangers. Our animal caretakers are happy to advise you. If you are interested in Miko or have questions about him, feel free to contact his animal caretakers at the rehabilitation center or fill out the form below. We look forward to hearing from you. Gets along with other dogs.

DE·Show original

About Miko

What life with Miko looks like

Miko is a medium-sized adult border collie dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle in certain situations due to bite history, needs resource management during feeding, requires rural/quiet environment with separate entrance

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
