Mila

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Mila is a lively, very trusting, and people-oriented Podenca mix female dog. As a social, friendly, and compatible survivor, she brought her puppies into the world in a very good hiding place and nursed them there. This she did in the company of another mother dog, Margot, who also raised her offspring in the wild. The two mothers shared the rearing, taking turns in the search for food and the supervision of the rascals, a practical and sensible partnership born of friendship; in total, both mothers had ten puppies to feed. Certainly not an easy time for the mother dogs, who had to be constantly on the lookout for pursuit and expulsion with their defenseless offspring and found little rest. Mila and Margot nursed and groomed all the puppy dogs without discrimination, supporting each other, becoming a real big family, even though this life phase must have been exhausting for the furred mothers. To this day, the female dogs are attached to each other. Margot needs Mila especially! Even though we can place both furred mothers individually, a shared home for the two mothers would be a real dream, and especially comforting for Margot, who gets Mila's support, confidence, and orientation. The cuddly, lively Mila is open and ready for a life as a beloved family member! In the wish home, children and/or other dogs may live, but no cats. So cuddly, cooperative, and cuddly Mila is, the local animal welfare workers note that she is not a cat lover. Who would like to offer the social Mila a loving, beautiful home and allow her to better live out her own needs and finally have time for herself with her own people? About Mila

What life with Mila looks like

Mila is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
