adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Miles can travel directly to his final home! His story: Zalau, Romania. The beautiful Miles is searching for his people. His life has apparently not been very pleasant so far. Miles was found near the forest. There, he ran onto the road and almost got hit. The finders brought him to our local vet to scan for a microchip. Miles did not have a chip. The finders felt great pity for Miles, but said they were only passing through and asked us to take care of him. Of course, we agreed. Miles is such a beautiful, innocent dog who simply wants to be loved. During the photoshoot, the helpers were moved to tears because he was so insecure and the new situation stressed him out a lot. At the same time, he constantly sought their support and even wagged his tail. Unfortunately, it is clear that Miles was hit by something in the past. He shows no aggressive behavior, but he immediately lowers his head when sudden movements are made. In general, he is very attentive to everything happening around him. He also likes treats and has not lost his trust in people. One of the local helpers describes him this way: "He is very modest, the perfect example of how wonderful dogs are: they forgive even what should not be forgiven." For Miles, we are looking for a family that does not expect anything from him at first and lets him settle in at his own pace. Children in the household should also be older. Miles should be allowed to set the pace at which he settles in. We do not know if Miles has ever lived in a house or an apartment. Therefore, it is not a big deal to give him a little misfortune at the beginning. We do not know if Miles gets along with cats, but he is compatible with other dogs. At 56 cm and 23 kg, Miles is a medium-sized dog. It seems that he is a mix of a hunting dog (perhaps a Bracken mix). This would also explain his character traits. However, this also means that when Miles is truly "settled in," he will not be a couch potato but will want to be exercised. Sniffing games, tracking, and mantrailing would certainly be activities that Miles would enjoy. Additionally, a well-fitting recall is needed. Attending dog training classes would also be recommended. Are you looking for a balanced dog who still has enough power and who wants to be challenged and nurtured in life? Are you ready to help Miles work through and overcome his traumatic experiences? Then you are likely already the perfect team. Apply through our homepage. Miles travels microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with his EU pet passport in his luggage and can be adopted for an adoption fee of 450 Euros, after a positive assessment. A foster home would also be a good start. Thank you, C.B. Koester! You gave Miles this beautiful name and helped him start a new life.

About Miles

What life with Miles looks like

Miles is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
