Adopt Milla

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 8 months

Primary vaccination + Rabies Milla arrived at our foster home in Croatia just a few days ago – and her story has deeply touched us… She was bought as a puppy, but was never really accepted. No fenced garden, little understanding – and when she grew larger and started wandering around the village, she eventually became "a problem". After about five months, we received a call asking if we could help. Our foster home told us that when Milla arrived on Wednesday, she was completely frightened. The stress was clearly visible, her saliva dripped from tension. She looked after her owner as if he were her whole universe… and he left without looking back once. Milla had not even had a name in her entire life. No closeness, no affection – because "she doesn't like to be touched"... Yet our foster home gave her the time she needed to settle in peacefully. And then something beautiful happened: Within just a few minutes, Milla cautiously sought contact, placed her paw on the hand – as if asking whether she may finally trust. Since then, she makes small progress every day. Today – only a few days later – Milla shows herself as a gentle, incredibly loving soul who simply longs for closeness and belonging. She is friendly with dogs and cats and enjoys every attention she receives. 8 months old, approx. 15 kg, approx. 40 cm, Croatian Shepherd mix, compatible with dogs and cats, vaccinated, microchipped, spayed (fresh), dewclaws removed, 4DX test positive for Anaplasma (in treatment, she can leave around mid-May). Milla is now safe – and ready for her own home with people who love her, understand her and will never abandon her again. Pick-up only possible in Freilassing. About Milla

What life with Milla looks like

Milla is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ankerhunde e.V. in Novi Grad.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ankerhunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ankerhunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ankerhunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
