Millie is a lovely lady who has come into our care from a breeder. She has been described as a big softy, and it's easy to see why. Although she has come from a breeder, we have been told that she has never had any litters. She has now moved into foster care, where she is gradually settling into home life. Millie is still a very worried girl who needs plenty of time and patience, but she is making gentle progress every day. Millie spends much of her day relaxing in her favourite safe spot in the garden, where she feels most comfortable. She is still nervous around people and can become submissive when she is unsure, often lying down while she works out that she is safe. However, she is beginning to build trust with her foster carer and will now come over when called, lying down to allow a gentle fuss once she feels comfortable. She is particularly wary of men and remains especially nervous around her foster dad, so her adopters will need to understand that gaining her trust will take time and should always be done at her pace. We have been told that Millie gets along well with all the dogs she meets, with a particular fondness for Poodle breeds! She is happiest with canine company and will need another kind and confident resident dog in her new home to help guide her and give her reassurance. We still feel she would thrive in a home with just one other dog, as larger groups can overwhelm her and cause her to retreat into herself. She will also need a secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft to help keep her safe while she settles. Millie is becoming more comfortable with her daily routine in foster care. In the evenings, she comes inside and settles quietly in the kitchen, happily relaxing nearby while her foster carer goes about the evening. She sleeps peacefully on the landing outside the bedroom and is gradually becoming more familiar with life in a home. However, she is not yet ready to wear a harness or venture out on walks, and her foster carers are allowing her to progress entirely at her own pace. As she has never lived in a home before, she will still need help with house training, lead training, and learning all the basics of family life. She can live with older, dog-savvy teens aged 16+ who will respect her need for space and allow her to settle at her own pace. Millie is a gentle, affectionate girl who is trying so hard to be brave, but her worries still hold her back. She is looking for a very patient and understanding family who won't expect too much too soon. With a kind canine companion by her side and adopters who will give her all the time and reassurance she needs, we are confident Millie will continue to blossom and grow in confidence. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
