Milo

British Shorthair · Male · Adult · 7 years

Milo was originally handed over to us a few months ago because he had been unsuitable for apartment living for years. He had lived in an apartment with a balcony, together with his sister. We suspect that he did not like apartment living. Then, five months ago, we found him a home with a yard. There was another female cat living there. Unfortunately, she could not accept him at all and bullied him. The people did not want to give up right away, so they did not return him directly. The situation escalated to the point where Milo developed a bladder infection, likely stress-induced. He was peeing small urine drops everywhere and was mostly locked out so the two cats would not meet. The owners now realized that it was not worth continuing. They called us and brought Milo back. Currently, he is very hostile towards us. A bladder infection certainly hurts, and he doesn’t know why he is back with us. We hope that he will soon overcome the bladder infection and find us again. The owners were very sad to have to give Milo back to us. He was well-liked and a handsome tomcat with them. Even when the other cat attacked him, he barely fought back. We see Milo more as a single cat. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Milo

What life with Milo looks like

Milo is a adult british shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
