adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Milou has found a home! Her story: Milou was allowed to move from Bistrita, Romania to a foster home in Leipzig at the end of July and is now finally waiting for her own home! The cute, scruffy little female German Shepherd looks like someone has conjured a miniature version of the breed. With her loyal eyes and attentive ears, she immediately wraps anyone around her paw. She is expected to stay small when fully grown – making her the perfect companion for snuggling on the couch, a city stroll, or an adventure in the great outdoors. In Leipzig, Milou shows herself to be a cheerful, open-minded puppy that curiously explores the world. She loves to rummage through tall grass, sniff everything (and sometimes even lick it), and is always enthusiastic about it. She finds people great – she seeks out closeness, enjoys cuddles, and can also keep herself occupied with a chew toy. Milou has already learned a lot: She can perform basic commands well, and she often walks calmly on a leash, making it often hang loosely. She quickly understands what is allowed and learns new things with joy. However, puppy-like challenges still exist: During encounters with other dogs or people, she can jump out of excitement or suddenly pull, and in a big commotion, a little puddle might appear in the apartment. Driving still needs to be practiced. Additionally, she sometimes gets a little cold when touched, and she doesn't like being lifted high – but she lets it happen without a fuss when necessary. With her approximately 6 months, Milou is now at the beginning of puberty – that famous phase where puppies sometimes forget what they can already do and switch their ears to full volume. This is completely normal, but it requires people with patience, positive reinforcement, and a sense of humor to stick with it. For while puberty can sometimes be annoying: It passes, and what remains is a wonderful, confident dog. Milou is looking for people who give her time to settle in, provide her with security, and consistently but lovingly accompany her through life. Nature walks, small adventures, many cuddle sessions, and a visit to a positively working dog training class would be exactly right for her. Milou is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, and brings her EU pet passport. Stand: 04.09.

Vielen Dank, Sarina! Du hast Milou ihren schönen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 04.09.2025

About Milou

What life with Milou looks like

Milou is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
