Mio

Mixed Breed · Male

Mio was found as a small (1.8kg), underweight puppy locked in a metal doghouse in the village of Čaňa - in the middle of winter, completely alone. He was lucky and soon found his first home. Unfortunately, after three years, he came back to us - the reason was the family moving... For Mia it was a big shock, at first he was very distrustful and scared. He didn't understand what was happening and why he suddenly was left without a family. Thanks to a patient approach and hand-feeding, he gradually started to get used to it again. He became a friendly and social dog who enjoys human proximity, petting and shared moments. Mio is a young and active dog who loves fetching, balls and crazy games with his dog friends. He is playful, clever and learns quickly - he knows the commands sit, shake paw and fetch. He gets along well with dogs and female dogs, and likes to play with them. He has good hygiene habits, behaves politely and doesn't destroy anything. Handling him is trouble-free. Mio is suitable for active people - as long as they are prepared to give him time to adjust and will guide him with love and patience. He would be best off in an apartment or house with full access to the yard.

SK·Show original

Mal šťastie a čoskoro našiel svoj prvý domov.

About Mio

What life with Mio looks like

Mio is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
