Mira

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · 10 years

A real character lady, our Mira! Once she trusts someone, she's simply irresistible and up for any fun. Mira needs clear and confident leadership in daily life. She can react uncertainly to unknown people and needs her owner's security. Outdoor activities and fetch games are always welcome with this beauty. With other dogs, sympathy decides - if she accepts another dog, wonderful friendships usually develop. She has a strong hunting drive, so only a move to a cat-free household. Young children shouldn't be in her new home as she gets overwhelmed with too much commotion. Responsible owners will quickly recognize this unique dog's value. Once Mira takes you into her heart, you'll be showered with love. Though this tough girl doesn't seem like it, she's very sensitive and empathetic. Once she trusts, she'll go through thick and thin with you.

About Mira

What life with Mira looks like

Mira is a medium-sized adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Strong prey drive, needs calm environment without young children or cats

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vorarlberger Tierschutzheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
