Mirela

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Mirela, approximately 2 years old, about 50 cm tall and around 15 kg, is a loving and people-oriented female dog who came to the shelter with her puppies. Initially, she is a bit reserved, but quickly warms up. She is ecstatic at the fence when people come, and she enjoys the closeness and attention very much. Mirela is affectionate and friendly and gets along very well with other dogs. It is not known yet how she reacts to cats. Optically, Mirela is somewhat reminiscent of a Collie-hunting dog mix. Therefore, we cannot rule out that she brings hunting instincts with her. Mirela is Leishmaniasis-positive and currently shows particularly increased claw growth. A vaccination is still pending, which is why her departure is not possible until mid-November at the earliest. We are looking for a loving home for Mirela, where she can finally arrive after her previous life and win her humans over. We do not mediate in very urban living situations or in families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if the takeover is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the adoption of a new family member with your family (if necessary, other involved persons such as employer, landlord, interim care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large-scale care facility or in the shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful settling in a new home, they need time, patience and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and grow into confident dogs.

DE·Show original

About Mirela

What life with Mirela looks like

Mirela is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mirela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mirela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mirela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mirela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mirela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mirela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mirela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
