Adopt Mirko & Mondgesicht

European Shorthair · Male

Mirko and Mondgesicht are looking for a home together, as the two have become friends during their long time at the animal shelter. We know that this will be like searching for a needle in a haystack, but maybe somewhere out there is the jackpot - the perfect person for these two cautious tomcats. Mirko came to us with his sister Minna from a farm where the cats had multiplied uncontrollably. People have been more like food providers for him so far, but he has become braver and enjoys cuddling with his trusted people. Thanks to his curious nature, he is more confident than before, and his former roommate Porzia showed him every day how nice it can be to interact with people. However, Mirko is still reserved with strangers and observes everything from a safe distance. Mirko has a congenital adhesion of the iris to the cornea in one eye, which does not affect him. In addition, he unfortunately suffers from an unspecified chronic intestinal disease, probably an allergy, and only tolerates the food "Hill's z/d Food Sensitivities". Regarding Mondgesicht: The poor Mondgesicht has been in the animal shelter for over a year and has fought a hard battle against his allergies. He repeatedly scratched his head bloody due to recurring ear infections and underwent many treatments. Unfortunately, he is understandably not a big fan of people, so his new family must take their time to earn his trust. Mondgesicht will probably not become a cuddly cat in one or two months. But there must still be people who can meet him patiently and do not expect him to jump on the lap or be stroked all the time. With his hypoallergenic food "Hill's z/d Food Sensitivities", he is well adjusted and has no complaints whatsoever, provided he doesn't get any treats or other food. Also, his ears are no longer inflamed, and we are hopeful that this will continue.

About Mirko & Mondgesicht

What life with Mirko & Mondgesicht looks like

Mirko & Mondgesicht is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mirko & Mondgesicht, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mirko & Mondgesicht?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mirko & Mondgesicht on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mirko & Mondgesicht if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mirko & Mondgesicht already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mirko & Mondgesicht isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mirko & Mondgesicht and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
