Mirta

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

The story of Mirta: from the silence of the street to the love of this breed shelter Mirta is a young cat that represents, unfortunately, the fruit of human irresponsibility and the phenomenon of feralism. Like many other abandoned cats, she has always lived on the streets, learning to survive among dangers and indifference. Having never known the security of a home, Mirta is not accustomed to human contact and does not easily adapt to apartment life. Her existence was invisible, like that of so many feral mics that populate our cities, until destiny changed her path. During another litter, four of her kittens fell into a deep hole, risking their lives. Thanks to the timely intervention of volunteers and firefighters, the kittens were rescued, treated, and then happily adopted by loving families. It was precisely this event that brought Mirta "into the light": her story touched the hearts of many and once again showed how important sterilization is to prevent new unwanted births and reduce abandonment. Recuperated with patience and gentleness, Mirta was sterilized and treated. Due to some health issues, she was not reintroduced into the territory but welcomed at our animal shelter our shelter, where she receives daily love, attention, and respect. The story of Mirta is a symbol of our mission: to fight abandonment, promote responsible sterilization, and spread a message of love and respect for all animals. Every life saved is a victory against feralism and a step toward a fairer and more compassionate world. About Mirta

What life with Mirta looks like

Mirta is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mirta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mirta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mirta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mirta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mirta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mirta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mirta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
