Mirta

Mixed Breed · Female

This is about a 3-year-old female dog who came to us from Tarnopol. She was terrified and glued to the ground. On the first walks, she crawled and needed to feel the warmth of a person next to her just to take one step. She got the nickname "zezulka" - we were told she's blind. During diagnostics (eye examination, MRI and cerebrospinal fluid analysis), it turned out that she has vision problems, but on a neurological basis. A depression was found in the skull, which is most likely the result of an accident or a blow, but we'll never know for sure... What we do know is that Mirta proved to be an amazing dog - she fully showed it in the foster home, with our physiotherapist. She immediately steals the heart of everyone who spends time with her. She no longer crawls on the ground - she loves open spaces, forests, where she feels safest. She handles it well then and you can't see any signs of vision problems. It's difficult for her to see things up close, like treats, toys, or her bowl, so you have to nudge her a bit. She has mastered walking up stairs, keeps the house clean (at first, after moving to a new place, she might have some issues), and handles open spaces as well as indoors very well. Her walking on a leash is getting better and better. She loves people and children! She is not a conflict-prone dog, she really likes to play with other dogs. In the foster home, she didn't show separation anxiety, didn't destroy anything, and rested peacefully. She returns when called for a walk. She loves stuffed animals. She accepts cats and likes other dogs (she encourages them to play, so her canine sister or brother must be very patient and understanding towards her :)). Mirta is microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed.

Uwielbia ludzi i dzieci !

About Mirta

What life with Mirta looks like

Mirta is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja EkoStraż in Wrocław.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mirta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mirta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja EkoStraż handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mirta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mirta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja EkoStraż will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mirta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mirta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja EkoStraż early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mirta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
