Missy

Female · Young · 3 years

Missy is a black-and-tan dachshund... wait, let me translate accurately. Missy is a dachshund. She has been returned to us from adoption for the second time. Why? She has epilepsy. Missy is a very sweet and good-natured three-year-old female of the Czech Pinscher... no, the Czech spotted dog breed, and she has been given more to carry than any dog deserves... Until she was a year and a half old, she lived with her siblings at her original breeder's, where care was more like neglect, and the dogs were taken to shelters. Missy came to us with a strange lump under her eye, which was treated at the vet and drained; the cause was determined to be an old injury. Because Missy was very sweet and friendly from the start with us, she soon found a new home. Unfortunately, after several months the lump under her eye reappeared (again treated at the vet), and she gradually began to have strange behavioral episodes, which were attributed to stress and the recurring lump, with the likely associated sinusitis. When these episodes intensified, Missy was returned to us, and we performed an MRI of her head. The examination showed an abnormally enlarged cavity in the right side of her face, causing irritation of the surrounding tissues that produced the lump. Missy was also diagnosed with epilepsy. She received medication, after which the seizures stopped, and after some time she went to a new home. Unfortunately, she stayed there for just under five months, when the seizures returned, and after a series of several in a row, her new owner gave up and returned Missy. What does one of Missy's seizures look like? Missy's seizures do not follow the typical course we usually picture with epilepsy: she has no convulsions, unconsciousness, or foaming at the mouth... During a seizure, Missy paces, licks, and swallows everything that comes in her way, then vomits, breathes rapidly, and looks more like she has heartburn than an epileptic seizure. This lasts from a few minutes up to several hours. Missy is currently on medication, and the level of the drug in her blood is at an ideal value. She has currently been seizure-free for over two months. However, this does not mean the battle is won. Epilepsy is a variable disease, and what works today may not work in a month. It is therefore necessary to expect that various situations may arise during Missy's life that will need to be addressed (as with any dog :-) ). It is important, however, to follow the correct medication schedule (give the medicine twice daily, every 12 hours), and if a seizure reappears, to address it at the vet (ideally with the neurologist who is caring for Missy – Prague, Vetcentrum). The next check-up should be in March 2027. Character and whom we are looking for: Missy is a very friendly female who loves people, children, and other dogs, with whom she likes to play, and she can even stir up some serious "boulders" :-D. She enjoys canine company. She loves going on walks and outings. At home she is clean and destroys nothing, and she is not noisy. She is deaf – she knows a few hand-signal commands and is receptive and eager to learn. We are looking for a home for her ideally in a house with a garden, with patient people who will appreciate a great canine partner, but who will not throw her overboard in her state of health. We are looking for a stable home with responsible owners who will follow the prescribed treatment and support Missy if she needs it. Missy has already been through more than enough in her short life and would finally need to belong somewhere forever. We do not want her home to be a shelter kennel, but the sofa and bed of people who love her. A minimum of one non-binding visit is a condition of adoption. She is located in Svárov, Central Bohemian Region. She will be adopted microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, with all necessary medications, under an adoption contract, after payment of the adoption fee (2500 CZK).

Povaha a koho hledáme: Missy je velmi přátelská fenka, miluje lidi, děti i ostatní pejsky, s kterými si ráda hraje a dokáže rozehrát i pořádné "balvany" :-DPsí společnost jí vyhovuje.

About Missy

What life with Missy looks like

Missy is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at ForDogs z.s. in Czech Republic.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Missy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Missy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ForDogs z.s. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Missy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Missy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ForDogs z.s. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Missy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Missy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ForDogs z.s. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Missy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
