Iris

Female · Senior · 9 years

Iris is love. Literally. Beautiful, gentle, kind, with a friendly nature. This dog is, at least in our opinion, the prototype of the perfect dog. Iris was used to living in a large garden and would go to sleep in the barn or the porch of the house at night. She reliably guards the garden, but she adores visitors to death. We are looking for a home for her where she gets enough attention and contact with a person who likes to seek out - an ideal home is a house with a garden, where she herself can choose whether she wants to be inside the house or outside in the garden. She wasn't used to walks, but she has really come to love them and looks forward to them a lot. She generally gets along with other dogs, but is a little impolite with some. One dog we have is completely disliked by her. If Iris is to have a companion in her new home, they need to meet during a visit to the shelter. She is clean and doesn't destroy anything. She likes children. Supposedly she doesn't like cats. Iris had a tumor removed from her mammary gland, unfortunately she has an inoperable tumor on the bottom of her tongue, which according to histology is a carcinoma. Due to this, we cannot estimate how much time Iris has left. But we would be happy if she could spend it in a new home. She will go for adoption microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, spayed, under an adoption agreement.

Iris je láska. Doslova.

About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a large senior dog waiting at ForDogs z.s. in Czech Republic.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ForDogs z.s. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ForDogs z.s. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ForDogs z.s. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
