Mitja

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 9 years

Mitja is from the Kibuna cat colony. One day, it was noticed that he had severely lost weight, his eyes were inflamed and his general condition was worrying. At the clinic, it turned out that he had a widespread infection and the eye inflammation was caused by the eyelids turning inward. Both problems required surgical intervention. Today, the operations have been successfully completed and this difficult chapter in Mitja's life is closed. After the surgeries, Mitja recovered very well in the shelter. The pain subsided, his appetite returned and with it came joy of living. Gradually, he started to purr both physically and emotionally. Today, Mitja is a completely different cat - calm, gentle and very grateful for everything that has happened to him. He enjoys soft nests, good food and quiet surroundings. And most importantly - he has started to trust people again. In the company of a familiar person, he is a true lap cat and friend, extremely grateful for every cuddle - it has become his daily joy and sense of security. With strangers, Mitja is still cautious. Sudden movements or loud noises make him temporarily alert. This does not mean that he does not want to interact with people, but rather that his experiences from street life have left him with memories that require time and patience to fade away. A calm and patient environment helps him build trust and feel comfortable. Mitja has also learned to play. Balls and mice immediately catch his attention and the playfulness comes quickly. On the other hand, being shut up causes him an entirely incomprehensible great fear. Mitja is looking for a home with peace and lots of love. A home where he can forget all the shadows of the past and finally be truly safe. Mitja is ready to start a new life and it might just be with you. If you feel that you could offer Mitja a forever home or would like more information about him, please contact the shelter: .

Mitja on pärit Kibuna kassikolooniast. Mitja on valmis alustama uut elu ja võib olla on see just sinu juures. Tekkis huvi? Täida ankeet ja paku kodu!

About Mitja

What life with Mitja looks like

Mitja is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ in Estonia.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇪Adopting from Estonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mitja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mitja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mitja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mitja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mitja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mitja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mitja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ET). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
