Moana – In foster – North West
English Bulldog · Female · Adult · 8 years
MEET MOANA 8 years old. A stray. And desperately in need of us. Sometimes a set of photographs lands in our inbox and, despite everything we have seen over the years, we still struggle to comprehend what we are looking at. Moana was one of those dogs. This beautiful girl had been handed into stray kennels and was due to complete the usual seven-day hold. But when we saw the photographs of her condition, we simply couldn't leave her there. We begged the kennels to allow us to take her early because it was immediately obvious to us that this little girl desperately needed veterinary attention. Thankfully, they agreed. One of our amazing volunteers dropped everything and went to collect her. When Lisa arrived home with Moana, she immediately began gently bathing her while we were on the phone arranging an emergency veterinary appointment. Underneath the mud, blood and discharge was the saddest little bulldog. She was cleaned up, given a lovely meal and, probably for the first time in a very long time, shown some tenderness and kindness. Then it was straight to the hospital. And she hasn't left since. Moana was admitted overnight and our vets immediately started investigating what is going on. So far she has had blood tests, X-rays, an ultrasound scan and further investigations into the tissue/mass protruding from her back end. At the moment, the veterinary team believe that what we are seeing may be a mass. The next and incredibly important question is what exactly it is and whether there is evidence of disease anywhere else. So Moana is staying in the 24-hour hospital again tonight while the investigations continue and we wait for the results. Hopefully tomorrow we will finally have some answers and, most importantly, a plan for what we can do for her. What breaks our hearts most is looking at this little girl and wondering how long she has been living like this. The only information we currently have is that she was handed into the kennels by a woman who reportedly said that she couldn't keep her because her boyfriend was banned from keeping animals. And that is it. That's all we know about the first eight years of Moana's life. We have been told that she is approximately eight years old and that her name is Moana. We haven't yet been able to confirm all of her microchip information ourselves, but we will. What we do know is the dog in front of us now. Despite everything, the hospital staff tell us that she is absolutely lovely. She's gentle. She's got a beautiful personality. She's eating. She's being kept comfortable and clean. And she's finally surrounded by people who care what happens to her. Right now, that's exactly where she needs to be. We won't pretend that financially this has come at a good time. We currently have an extraordinary number of dogs in our care with significant medical needs, and our veterinary bills are enormous. But when a dog arrives in front of us looking like this, we can't base the decision to help her on whether it's convenient. Moana needed somebody. So we became that somebody. Whatever tomorrow's results bring, tonight this little girl is warm, clean, fed, safe and receiving the medical care she should have had long before she reached us. Now we need your help to give her the chance she deserves. PLEASE HELP MOANA So far the bill is up to £1500 and rising, If you're able to donate towards Moana's hospitalisation, investigations and whatever treatment comes next, even a few pounds genuinely makes a difference. If you can't donate, please share her story. The more people who see Moana, the more help we can hopefully raise for her care. We will update everyone as soon as we have the results and know what we're dealing with. Welcome to GBSR Moana. You shouldn't have had to wait eight years for somebody to fight for you. But we're fighting for you now. For now, please join us in welcoming this precious little lady to the Geordie Bullies family and wishing her the very best as she begins this new chapter.
