Mokka

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Mokka – A strong-willed female dog is looking for an experienced foster home Mokka spent most of her life on the street. During that time she developed behaviors that were necessary for her survival, but which now need to be reshaped and trained in a human environment. To help Mokka find her way to harmonious living, we are looking for an experienced foster home that is willing to work with her in a targeted way and teach her the necessary rules and structure. Mokka is a very people-oriented female dog who seeks closeness to her primary caregiver and enjoys interacting with familiar people. She is attentive, affectionate, and eager to learn. At the same time, she has a pronounced self-confidence. In encounters with other dogs, she likes to take the lead, which becomes especially clear when other dogs challenge her position. She also shows defensive behavior around resources such as food or toys. These behaviors can be worked on well through targeted training, but they require people with dog sense and clear communication. In addition, she is still uncertain with a collar and leash, which must also be practiced step by step in order to strengthen her trust in these everyday situations. For Mokka, we are looking for a foster home, ideally in a quiet, rural environment, with experience handling demanding dogs. The foster home should be ready to give Mokka clear guidance and work intensively with her. A securely fenced garden would be ideal so that she can move freely in between. Mokka would be well suited as a single dog. If dogs already live in the household, they should be able to communicate clearly, firmly, and fairly so that conflicts can be resolved appropriately. If you feel up to this task and are ready to give Mokka the support she needs, we look forward to hearing from you!

About Mokka

What life with Mokka looks like

Mokka is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mokka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mokka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mokka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mokka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mokka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mokka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mokka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
