Monica

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Monica is a friendly young female dog who is still in the early stages of her life and therefore collects many new impressions. She meets people openly and with interest. According to her age, she shows herself playful, curious and active. She likes to explore her surroundings and brings the typical characteristics of a young dog: she wants to discover, learn and get to know the world together with her caregivers. Since Monica is still young, she must first learn the ABC of dogs. This includes, among other things, house training, relaxed alone time, walking on a leash as well as the basic signals of everyday life. With patience, consistent, loving upbringing and positive reinforcement, she will probably develop well and grow into a reliable companion. Monica enjoys physical and mental activity that is adapted to her age. Regular walks, playful training and joint activities with her humans help her to channel her energy in the right direction and build a close bond. Since young dogs are still developing, rest phases and a balanced level of exertion should also be an integral part of their daily routine. Optically and by her behavior, Monica's genes could be those of a shepherd dog. Whether this is actually confirmed cannot currently be said for certain. If there is a corresponding proportion, we wish for her people who are happy to deal with the needs of such dogs and to engage Monica both physically and mentally in a meaningful way. A breed-typical workload does not necessarily have to mean dog sports - often varied walks, nose work, learning tasks and close cooperation with their humans is enough. For Monica we wish for a home at people who bring enough time and patience to engage her

About Monica

What life with Monica looks like

Monica is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Monica, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Monica?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Monica on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Monica if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Monica already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Monica isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Monica and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
