Adopt Moss

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Young · 2 years

About MossMoss is a lovely little lad who came to the centre via an inspector after he was found living in squalid conditions along with many other dogs. Due to his past being very restricted, it has left him unsure when trying to adapt to new situations and surroundings. He is a very sweet natured boy who is learning that there is a whole world out there for him to experience, he is beginning to understand that life can be fun and exciting but it all has to be done at his own pace. Moss is much more confident when around dogs and you can see a definite change in his character when he is with them, for this reason we would like him to be homed with an existing confident dog. He has missed out on so much in his short life and has so much to experience for the first time, he has never lived in home so his adopters will need to be patient and understanding of his needs. He will need someone at home with him most of the time to begin with to help him with the transition in to a new home. He will repay you with loyalty, fun and lots of love. Moss is suitable to live with other dogs and will need an adult only home. Potential adopters will need to commit to multiple meets at the centre to build up a bond with Moss and meet with our behaviourist before adoption.

About Moss

What life with Moss looks like

Moss is a young adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at RSPCA York Animal Home in York.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Moss, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Moss?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA York Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Moss on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Moss if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA York Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Moss already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Moss isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA York Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Moss and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
