Adopt Ruffles

Border Collie · Female · Senior · 12 years

Ruffles is a really sweet girl who came to the centre via an inspector after being found living in appalling conditions, not only was she completely emaciated and dehydrated she was being forced to live in filthy conditions. Confined to a dirty and dingy cage for most of her life, Ruffles is now ready to leave his past behind him and start searching for his forever home. Ruffles was in a really bad way when she first came to the centre, her frail body was about to give up. Thankfully she is a fighter and had the will to live, with her determination and our care and veterinary treatment she turned a corner. Day by day she slowly started to improve, before she could have a general anaesthetic to sort her horrendous teeth out we had to help her to gain weight, improve her blood results to make her strong enough to survive the anaesthetic. Ruffles is one of the bravest, most resilient dog there is, after all she has overcome she absolutely deserves to be in a loving new home. Ruffles has a very kind, gentle and loving nature, all she wants is for someone to love her and give her affection. She will always snuggle in for a cuddle and really just wants to be with you. She is friendly with everyone she meets, she really has a heart of gold. Ruffles does not need a vast amount of exercise, she enjoys a little potter and will then settle down for a cuddle. Ruffles will make her new family the most loyal and loving best friend they could wish for. Ruffles is suitable to live with another quiet older dog after a successful meet at the centre and children aged 13 years and over.

About Ruffles

What life with Ruffles looks like

Ruffles is a senior border collie dog waiting at RSPCA York Home in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruffles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruffles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA York Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruffles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruffles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA York Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruffles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruffles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA York Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruffles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
