Motte

Male · Young · 3 years

Motte is a standout, as soon as the door opens, he bursts out and immediately checks everything out. Initially, we thought he was a cat, hence the name. Now, he's also affectionately called Mottemann. When he was found, Motte was much more reserved and even shy at first. Now, he's no longer timid, he's very active and wants to be engaged - otherwise, he thinks about food too much. As you can see in the pictures, he also relaxes and enjoys petting. Motte knows people and seems to have remembered this quickly, fortunately, but who knows how long he lived on the street. When he was found, he was quite thin and full of parasites, but he was already neutered. Unfortunately, he didn't have a chip, so the search for possible owners is almost hopeless. In the meantime, he has been marked and can hopefully not get lost again. If you're not intimidated or overwhelmed by Motte's exuberant nature, he's also suitable for cat beginners. The sweet Mottemann knows exactly what he wants and can probably dance on his humans' noses if you let him. How he reacts to children would still need to be tested, but small children in the household are not really imaginable. He finds other cats very boring and wants to rule as a single prince in his new home. Motte definitely wants to become a free-roaming cat and probably take one or two longer excursions. Nevertheless, he also needs and demands a lot of time and wants to tell his can openers everything about his adventures. He doesn't want to be alone for too long and get bored, because Mottemann is a confident and sometimes affectionate guy with a lot of dream cat potential.

DE·Show original

About Motte

What life with Motte looks like

Motte is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Motte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Motte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Motte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Motte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Motte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Motte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Motte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
