Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 17 years

Dobermann-Terrier Mix My name is Mister Dude. I am male, microchipped, vaccinated, and born in 2009. I have been waiting for a new home since 2017. I am approximately 60 cm tall. My caretakers say about me: Mister Dude came to us because he was classified as a danger dog after a hunt that ended fatally for the cat, and his owner was no longer able to meet the associated requirements due to health reasons. They have done everything in their power to keep Mister Dude with us and not in a large city animal shelter. So far, so good. Dude is an extremely popular resident, gets along wonderfully with other dogs regardless of gender, and runs quite calmly on the leash, with the exception of the start. When things get out of hand, he is often impatient and stormy, which is also commented on loudly. Once the initial excitement passes, he remains well manageable and obedient, but he needs consistent support and must internalize the proper behavior more, then it should be available without treats. He can also now be led past cats without any problems. Although Dude brings a pretty good character with a few small quirks and a humorous appearance, it just doesn't seem to work with an interested party. Even the many Christmas and New Year's Day photos, and the donation photos with and without a mask or silly glasses, are of no help—Dude is a danger dog in the wrong body. No staff, no pit, no bulli… of course, we have many wonderful danger dog enthusiasts. But most people who look for a dog like this in animal welfare are not searching for a classic terrier mix with a beard and bushy eyebrows… unfortunately… Time passes, and suddenly he feels like a senior, even though he feels like he’s not five. If one could express his temperament and power in numbers, he would be quite something. Mister Dude is looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, someone who is ready to meet all the requirements for him. Since Mister Dude now has some sponsors, support with cost management is not an issue, and a foster home is also possible. Who has an interest in taking care of Mister Dude’s beard and otherwise for him in the future?

So weit so gut.

About Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart

What life with Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart looks like

Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mr. Dude – Dobermann mit Bart and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
