Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Adult · 8 years

Mustang Age: Approx 8 years Sex: Female Colour: Black & White Breed: Domestic Short Hair Living with cats: No Living with dogs: No Make an adoption enquiry About Mustang Mustang was surrendered into our care back in January as her owner could no longer continue care for her. When she arrived at our centre she weighed 7.5kg and immediately began her weight loss journey. This was a slow process, but this beautiful kitty has made fantastic progress, now weighing nearly 5kg. Mustang's new family will need to continue managing her weight to help her reach a healthy target.Mustang has spent time in foster care, where she has adapted well to a home environment. She enjoys affection and will happily curl up on your lap, but prefers attention on her own terms and often forms a close bond with one person. She is an active, playful cat who loves teaser toys and is highly food motivated. She enjoys enrichment activities and already knows her name, "sit," and "reach." She currently uses a slow-feeder ball to encourage movement and make mealtimes more engaging.Mustang can become overstimulated, so play and enrichment should be offered in shorter sessions throughout the day. This may improve once she has access to the outdoors after settling into her new home.Mustang is looking for a home where she can be the only pet, as she does not get along with other cats or dogs. She would suit an adult-only home, although she could potentially live with cat-savvy teenagers aged 16 years and older who are sensible around cats. Do you want to give Mustang a new home? About Mustang

What life with Mustang looks like

Mustang is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Ulster SPCA in Northern Ireland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mustang, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mustang?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ulster SPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mustang on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mustang if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ulster SPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mustang already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mustang isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ulster SPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mustang and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
