Adopt Nada

Female

One cold February morning, our association was contacted because a dog was seen by the road not moving and howling for help. Our volunteers immediately went to check the situation and we found her by the roadside, alone and in great pain. We saw that she was injured but didn't know how bad it was. She was quickly taken to a local veterinarian and then to a better-equipped clinic. Unfortunately, the prognosis was not good. The dog's spine had been severed, and one of the hind legs was broken, and she couldn't move. The doctor told us she would need at least two operations to stabilize, but even then, she wouldn't be able to move her hind legs. All of us at Šapama Smedereva were heartbroken, but we wanted to help as much as we could, and the rescued dog showed a great will to live. We felt her smile when we petted her, and we couldn't leave her. She got a new name, which in our opinion shows her spirit - Nada. We immediately started looking for ways to raise money for the operations and people who could work with Nadja after the operation and help her with mobility and teach her to use the wheelchair she would need. Nada survived two operations and all the complications that followed; her spirit was truly unbreakable! Her muscles strengthened, and she began to use her wheelchair. Unfortunately, all the progress Nada had made was lost after Nadja's last operation, which was supposed to be routine and final because the implants that had stabilized her spine while it wasn't healed were removed. In the area of the wound, an infection occurred due to an autoimmune reaction during implant removal, and then again, a battle for Nadja's life began! Nadja's fighting spirit and strength saved her once again, with the help of veterinarians. Rehabilitation is ongoing, and we hope that Nada will continue to strengthen.

About Nada

What life with Nada looks like

Nada is a adult dog waiting at Šape Smedereva in Smederevo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇸Adopting from Serbia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nada, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nada?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Šape Smedereva handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nada on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nada if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Šape Smedereva will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nada already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nada isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Šape Smedereva early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nada and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
