Naira

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

🐾 May I introduce myself? I am Naira – a magical mixed-breed female dog, born in May 2022. As a little puppy, I unfortunately didn't get to gather many beautiful experiences with people. This led to me initially being a bit cautious and insecure. But hey – with patience, heart, and time, trust grows. And once that's there, I bloom! 🏡 Now I'm on the hunt for my heart's home. I wish for a quiet home for anxious dogs, a lot of patience, and a safe, quiet leadership – because that's the basis for me to let go and trust my person completely. A well-fenced backyard is a must! 🐶 A second dog with sovereignty? That would be great! I love other dogs and am strongly oriented towards them – it gives me security and stability. I'm friendly and compatible, and together, life just gets even more fun. 💛 If you open your heart to me, you'll get mine as a gift. I'm incredibly cuddly, clingy, and with every shared experience, I grow more and more into my new life. Thanks to my patient walkers, I've already learned a lot and now go almost everywhere with curiosity and bravery – only with children am I unfortunately overwhelmed, so a child-free home would be important for me.

About Naira

What life with Naira looks like

Naira is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Landestierschutzverein Steiermark in Graz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient owner experienced with fearful dogs, secure fenced yard mandatory, no children, benefits from confident second dog

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Naira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Naira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Landestierschutzverein Steiermark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Naira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Naira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Landestierschutzverein Steiermark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Naira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Naira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Landestierschutzverein Steiermark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Naira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
