Nala

Dachshund · Female · Puppy · 3 months

Nala was surrendered to the shelter at just under 4 months old because the owners' children were afraid of her after just a week. Those small sharp puppy teeth, combined with a mischievous character, can be exhausting and even painful... and Nala is not the little delicate princess... but rather the type of Ronja the Robber's Daughter! Typical of puppies, the little dachshund mix is very playful, tests her and others' boundaries, and her patience thread still needs to become a bit firmer. She gets along well with other dogs, so a confident and social first dog is not a problem. However, small children should not live in the home to avoid a new surrender. She has not yet learned to be alone, for which she is of course still much too young. Since a small dachshund stubbornness crosses with another unknown breed, her future people should have dog experience, attend a dog school with her, and lovingly work consistently on rules. Bit by bit, she can grow into a carefree young dog and understand what behavior is appropriate and whether she is sometimes a bit too bold and cheeky. Although she is likely to grow a bit more, she should not have to walk stairs permanently due to her shorter legs. At just under 4 kg, she is currently a lightweight, and you can still carry her without any problems... we can't say how big she will be when fully grown. Nala lives in a foster home and can only be visited after consultation. Interested parties please contact our dog caregivers by email, providing information about their living situation. Since she should be visited several times before possible adoption,

About Nala

What life with Nala looks like

Nala is a small puppy/kitten dachshund dog waiting at Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
