Nala

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 6 years

Nala is a loving and friendly female dog towards people, also approaching strangers openly and relaxed. She likes to snuggle with her trusted people and shows a lot of trust towards them. Manipulations like at the vet, ear cleaning, or eye drops are no problem for her, and she also shows no signs of distress. Nala came to the animal shelter together with MJ, where she was secured by the order office due to a biting incident with another dog and was classified as dangerous. The female dogs are compatible with each other and, depending on their affinity, also with other dogs. She still needs some training on the leash, but she can also be a bit grumpy depending on the situation, but can be easily interrupted. We are looking for a home for her without cats and small animals (due to hunting interest). She can move into a household with children from around 10 years old. Due to the official classification as a dangerous dog, Nala is subject to the leash and muzzle requirement on public grounds. Her new owners must complete the knowledge test and fulfill other official requirements. We are happy to advise and can provide contact to professionally qualified trainers for preparation of the behavioral assessment. Nala is age-appropriate in her activity and likes to power herself up, unfortunately, this is currently not possible as she urgently needs new hip joints due to a hereditary hip dysplasia. Nala has been treated with physiotherapy and various medications from the beginning at our shelter, but unfortunately, her gait has deteriorated so much that only an operation can bring relief. Her hip pops out repeatedly, and the sciatic nerve is also affected. Without the operation, she will become immobile in the long term.

About Nala

What life with Nala looks like

Nala is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken in Saarbrücken.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
