Nala

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Nala was entrusted to us for professional reasons. The athletic troublemaker brings a fair amount of basic obedience but requires fair and clear leadership. Her biggest challenge is to learn to relax and settle down. She has the most significant catch-up to do in this area, followed by being introduced to fellow animals. In principle, the half hen wants to be the biggest rooster and polishes her crowing loudly about it. We see in Nala a great nose with real potential in the right hands. We are looking for Malinois enthusiasts with athletic ambitions or with an interest in rescue dogs. A house with a garden in a quiet location is preferred, but not a condition. Children should be older and resilient, with the parents taking on the corresponding responsibility to guide the shared interactions. Nala is familiar with wearing a muzzle on walks, as she once allowed a minimal springing action at a high level of excitement, which resulted in no real injuries. It is a safety measure and has become a good habit. She greets every person friendly and open. A dream would be the possibility for Nala, especially in the beginning, to accompany her new owners to work. This would offer the opportunity to provide her with tasks throughout the day. Then, the quiet phases could be established well. Nala is a great co-pilot and enjoys being on the go, with plenty of cuddling after. Who would like to win Nala as a great employee and enrich their family life with our sports champion? (Thanks to Eileen Rothe for the great photos!). This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

DE·Show original

About Nala

What life with Nala looks like

Nala is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
