Nana

Female · Puppy

Like every project tour, a visit to the LIDA shelter in January 2026 was on the agenda. Marco had already warned us that there would be some dog moms with their puppies waiting for us. First, Marco led us to the area with the dog crates, which are primarily reserved for moms with their puppies. We were lucky, as it was just dry enough for us to take photos right next to the crates. Mama Nana was found in the Campagna. Given her very friendly and trusting nature, we assume she is not one of the typical stray dogs but may have had contact with humans at a rural property. From this, we conclude that she was likely abandoned because someone probably did not want to deal with a dog mom with puppies. Nana had given birth to eight puppies. The birth was probably only a day or two old when the small family was discovered in the bushes. What a huge blessing for Nana and her puppies. Without regular food, it would not have been possible to produce enough milk for eight hungry mouths. Moreover, there was a great danger that the puppies could be discovered and killed by wild animals or stray dogs. At the shelter, Nana and her puppies were then in safety. Well cared for and supported, Nana could now fully devote herself to her puppies. And they had developed well, as we could observe during our visit. Nania, Nutella, and Nepal, as well as the brothers Nadir, Nekkar, Neval, Noah, and Nori, have all become very cute puppies. They were a bit reserved, the photo session was not entirely to their liking, but they were all very loving and cuddly. Later, back on safe ground, they played happily around each other, as you can see in the video. Since we are very concerned that the little ones can continue to develop optimally, we want to bring them to Germany as soon as the legal requirements allow. Here, they should find their people and their dream homes with a close family connection. And of course, we also want to find a good home for the loving mother Nana forever. Since Mama and her children are Maremmano-Mixe, they need a suitable home environment. Experience with herding dogs would be perfect. But also people who inform themselves about this wonderful breed and are willing to implement recommendations are welcome. If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only joy but also work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide.

About Nana

What life with Nana looks like

Nana is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
