Nanku

Beagle · Male · Adult · 6 years

A man stood at the door, accompanied by a happy, wagging Beagle, completely unaware of the conversation that was about to follow. His name is Nanku. Six years ago, his owner bought him when he was going through a severe depression. His name was not given lightly: derived from Japanese, with the beautiful meaning "With time, everything falls into place." Best wise for a dog who has since specialized in finding cookies and confiscating sandwiches. Nanku grew up among his family and the children and was for years a wonderful, crazy Beagle as Beagles are meant to be: cheerful, funny, enthusiastic and always ready for adventure. But then life changed. His owner started working again from 7 to 18 hours, sometimes even longer. Nanku spent those long hours alone on a small patio, without a break, without a walk, without company. And yes. even the most well-behaved Beagle thinks one day: now I've had enough. He began to protest in his own way: crying, refusing, grumbling and occasionally making it clear that he didn't feel like being parked on that patio again. This made the atmosphere at home less pleasant. He was considered difficult, while Nanku was actually just a dog who didn't get enough of what he needed, namely exercise, attention, clarity and company. Yes, he sometimes dares to abduct a sandwich if the opportunity arises. Yes, he sometimes thinks he's the manager of the household. But deep down, Nanku is a good dog with a big heart and an even bigger nose. What is Nanku looking for now? A boss with knowledge of dogs and a sense of humor. Someone who can set boundaries, be consistent, but also understands that a Beagle is not a decorative piece. Someone who wants to walk, run, play, romp and certainly has a garden where he can burn off his energy. What he especially does not look for? A life in which he has to sit alone for ten hours waiting for better times. Nanku is not looking for a perfect house. Only an honest house, where his name can finally become true: that everything falls into place.

NL·Show original

About Nanku

What life with Nanku looks like

Nanku is a large adult beagle dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanku, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanku?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanku on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanku if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nanku already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanku isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanku and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
