At the animal shelter since: March 2026 Estimated age: born around April 2025 Estimated shoulder height: about 50 – 59 cm Get to know Nanuk better in further videos and pictures here! Rescued from the killing station with injuries, Nanuk longs for safety and love! Fur nose Nanuk comes from a killing station in Romania. There she immediately caught our team's attention because she had several bite wounds on her body. Nevertheless, she always stayed right at the fence and had hope of being rescued. How dogs end up in killing stations and much more we explain in our animal protection FAQ. Despite her injuries, Nanuk shows herself as friendly and actively seeks contact with people at the animal shelter. She happily jumps up at her visitors and allows herself to be touched all over her body. She also actively requests cuddles. The young female dog is currently living alone in the kennel due to the bite wounds. Therefore, her compatibility with other dogs needs to be tested in the future. However, she often wags her tail and goes to the grid that separates her from her neighbors and seems interested in contact. Nanuk appears to be rather restless at the animal shelter, when there are external noises she runs to the grid to see what is happening. This fur nose would be very happy about a home outside of the shelter life! This fur nose is new at the animal shelter. Our caretakers take the time to get to know each dog and assess them. When we know more about the character of this fur nose, we will update this profile. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped. This is a puppy.

About Nanuk

What life with Nanuk looks like

Nanuk is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanuk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanuk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanuk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanuk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nanuk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanuk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanuk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
