Nanuk

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Nanuk spent the first part of his life in a tiny pen of just one square meter, surrounded by his own excrement. Fortunately, one of our colleagues on site was able to free him from these miserable conditions. Since then, he has been living in a foster home in Romania. Despite his sad past, Nanuk is a cheerful and open dog who seeks closeness to people. He is always curious and interested, has a strong urge to move, and enjoys the company of other dogs, with whom he lives in a dog group. For Nanuk, we are looking for an active foster home in Germany that can help him continue to develop well, with structured daily routines, patience, and calm, confident leadership. Ideally, the foster home should have experience with dogs that still have a lot to learn and be willing to invest time and commitment in his training. A foster home in Germany can be a decisive turning point for Nanuk, helping to optimally prepare him for his later life. Nanuk will travel dewormed, deflead, neutered, and with an EU pet passport. A rapid test for Mediterranean diseases will be carried out in advance.

DE·Show original

About Nanuk

What life with Nanuk looks like

Nanuk is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanuk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanuk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanuk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanuk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nanuk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanuk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanuk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
