Nao

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 1 year

Nao – a young Malinois mix is seeking an experienced home. Nao is a young male dog who was recently taken in at a Spanish animal shelter. Accordingly, he is still at the very beginning of his adjustment period, and the caretakers are just getting to know him. So far, Nao gives a friendly and open impression. He gets along well with the female dog he shares a kennel with, and he also approaches people kindly. When engaged with him, he shows interest and enjoys the interaction. However, it is still too early to fully assess his character. Many dogs behave differently in an animal shelter than they do in a home when they have settled down and gained trust. We will of course update his profile as soon as more information about him becomes available. As a mixed breed with Belgian Shepherd traits, Nao likely brings with him breed-specific characteristics that future interested parties should definitely consider. Belgian German Shepherds are known for being intelligent, hardworking, sensitive, and very trainable. At the same time, they belong to the breeds that often have high expectations of their people. They require not only sufficient exercise but also mental stimulation, clear structures, and reliable leadership. A dog like Nao is not looking for a home where he simply "goes along." He needs people who are willing to invest time in his training and mental stimulation and enjoy actively working with their dog. We know nothing about Naos past life. Therefore, his future family should be open to the possibility that he may still have a lot to learn and that an initial move from the animal shelter will likely be a significant adjustment for him. Choosing a dog like Nao should always be well thought out. However, for those who are consciously prepared to meet the needs of these special dogs, they can gain a loyal, intelligent, and impressive companion. For Nao, we wish to find people who recognize his potential and give him the chance for a stable, permanent home. Here is Naos video. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Nao. At this point, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement for Naos life.

DE·Show original

About Nao

What life with Nao looks like

Nao is a large young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nao, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nao?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nao on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nao if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nao already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nao isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nao and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
