Adopt Negro

Pointer · Male · Young · 1 year

The handsome Negro is an approximately one-year-old Pointer dog who unfortunately experienced a disappointment early in his life. For reasons we cannot understand, he was surrendered to a Spanish animal shelter by his breeder. For the sensitive, still very young dog, this was a big shock - suddenly he finds himself in a noisy, bustling animal shelter with many canine companions. Negro is currently overwhelmed by the situation: so many dogs, so many impressions, everything is new. Therefore, he appears rather reserved and needs some time to gain trust and calm down. Negro is a gentle, sensitive dog. He wants to please, but the unfamiliar environment still unsettles him. In a quiet, loving home, he will soon open up and show his friendly, affectionate nature. Negro is relatively small for a Pointer and therefore also suitable for people who cannot or do not want to keep a very large dog. Pointers are active and intelligent dogs who love exercise and mental stimulation. Negro will be happy when he can explore the world together with his humans - whether on walks, jogging or nose work. We are looking for a loving, quiet home for Negro, where he can gradually build trust. People who have patience, understand his insecurity and support him with positive reinforcement will gain a loyal and grateful companion. If Negro has touched your heart, please contact us. We will advise you in detail whether Negro is suitable for you and organize everything for his release. Who will give this great dog a second chance? Taking responsibility for a rescue dog is always a special challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to get used to their new life. Do you want to take on the challenge and give the still young Negro a home? Negro would also be very happy about a foster home or sponsorship. Here is Negro's video Here is Video 2

About Negro

What life with Negro looks like

Negro is a extra-large young adult pointer dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Negro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Negro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Negro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Negro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Negro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Negro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Negro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
