Everyone, meet nutty Nelson! Nelson is one of the newest members of the Sun Valley family and he’s already made quite the impression. Nelson is hilarious, soooooo loving, cuddly and good natured. He is SUCH a people’s dog, and will literally melt into your arms for a cuddle. He has a male kennel buddy and they get along famously, they play great together and share their kennel and bed with no fuss at all. Not much is known about Nelson’s start in life, he came to us from the pound so the first year or so of his life is a bit of mystery. He did come to us as a pretty seriously underweight boy but luckily he didn’t lose his trust or affection for people. Nelson loves other dogs and can definitely live with another dog, but he’s a young lurcher with a lot of energy and loves to play rough – so the existing dog in the home would have to be one that enjoys rough and tumble and can keep up with a young, spritely lad. Nelson can live with kids, but we recommend older children as Nelson is quite nibbly, especially when he’s excited, which could be a bit much for a young kid. If you have older kids in the house, especially kids who are dog savvy and understand that Nelson isn’t being aggressive – he just has so much love to give that he’s giving you annoying nibbles, you would definitely be considered for Nelson. Nelson is still only a baby – if you know lurchers you know the grabbing/nibbling I’m talking about – and we think he’ll grow out of that as he gets older. Young lurchers are not for the weak! Nelson is confident and sociable, so we think he would really enjoy going on adventures, coffee shops, pubs, the beach etc – he’s going to want to steal the show and he seems like a dog that lives by the ‘more attention the better’ motto! He’s a really amazing boy with a lot of potential, so if you want a dog that you can train, work with and help blossom into the smart, adorable man he’s already showing himself to be, Nelson is a great canvas to work with! Please note, like with any young lurcher, Nelson will need to be enriched and exercised properly daily. If you want a lazy couch potato, have a look at our available greyhounds! Lurchers like Nelson do best in active homes with people who are up for doing a lot of walking and spending proper time on training and enrichment.
