NELSON

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

NELSON (M) – 6 YEARS – URGENT ADOPTION via BLC W134005172 Characteristics Date of birth: 12/08/2017 Sex: Male Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child friendly: From 8 years old Dog friendly: Yes, if they are female Cat friendly: NO Other animal friendly: Not known Personality Nelson is a very kind dog who has always lived with his owners. He is affectionate and loving and very calm inside. Like many border collies, Nelson can be reactive outside when he encounters skateboards, scooters or bikes. He does not like to be left alone in the garden and prefers to stay with his owners, but when they have to leave, he remains quiet at home and sleeps. Nelson loves peace, which is why very young children should be avoided. He is currently in a foster home with 2 other dogs and 2 cats (he stares at them, which is quite uncomfortable for the cats, so it's better to avoid them); there are also 3 children, the youngest being 10 years old, and this is not a problem. Nelson loves walks by the sea and has a very good recall. He is an obedient dog. During meetings with other animals of the same species, he has his moments; it is especially important that the other dog is not too persistent, which could trigger a fight. He is completely crazy about water and swimming is a real pleasure for him. However, he is afraid of the night and will need to be accompanied for evening walks in the garden. For everyone's peace of mind, it would be better to avoid having Nelson live with smaller animals, even small dogs. If there is a chicken coop, he won't go in forcefully, but if a chicken is free in the garden, even if he has never chased one, there is always a risk. History Nelson is a gentle and kind dog who has never had any problems before the birth of the family's baby. He becomes reactive towards the baby and the owners first saw an animal behaviorist, but remain worried about the future. They want Nelson to be able to thrive again in a new family without young children or small animals. That is why he is currently in a foster home. WHAT HOME FOR NELSON? It would be desirable to find a home for Nelson that has good knowledge of the needs of a border collie, capable of managing his reactivity outside, and available to offer him long walks with other animals of the same species if possible (he used to do so), and especially without young children. Then he will be able to give the best of himself. About NELSON

What life with NELSON looks like

NELSON is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting NELSON, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about NELSON?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw NELSON on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt NELSON if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is NELSON already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if NELSON isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know NELSON and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
