adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Nelson can stay! His story: 36396 Steinau. The wonderful Nelson currently lives in Steinau and wishes for a loving home with a big garden. Because Nelson loves to lie in the garden and enjoy the sun. After a long time living in a cramped pen on hard stones, Nelson has already settled well into his foster home and can walk nicely on a leash and is almost house-trained. Nelson has beautiful, longer fur in various shades of brown. Originally from Zalau, Romania, with his loyal button eyes, cute tufted ears, and a sweet, black snout, this delight in the soft, light brown fur is a true joy. His infectious joy and incredibly cuddly nature make Nelson a true happiness guarantee, who wants to grow up in the company of animal-loving people. We very much hope that this approximately 6-month-old fur prince will soon find a forever home or at least a temporary foster crate where he can fully express his playful side—like chasing colorful balls across meadows and returning to the arms of his favorite people with a wagging tail. For a portion of cuddles, he would even put his highly sought-after treats aside. Nelson has a sad backstory. His mother, an unknown street dog, had to give birth to her puppies under difficult circumstances, resulting in all but him and his brother Dio dying. The two boys were saved and safely placed in a private shelter. However, we were unable to save the mother due to her strong fear. Given his medium-sized mother and the assumption that his father might be a herding or livestock guardian dog, he is likely to grow into a rather large male dog, with a height of around 60cm. Despite his cuddly appearance, Nelson of course still needs training and socialization. We are therefore looking for adopters with experience in raising this special breed, known for their energy, intelligence, independence, and loyalty. An innate protective instinct is also not to be ruled out. Training in a good dog training class could certainly be valuable and play a significant role in building a strong bond. This is currently important for Nelson during his early adolescence and will provide him with stability. Nelson would be happiest in a more rural home with a fenced garden, giving him the freedom to roam as he pleases. He shows friendliness and simplicity towards other dogs. He plays very much and could be a bit boisterous in play, so a similarly sized dog would be a good match. Nelson is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and in possession of an EU pet passport. Who would like to be the so desperately sought-after two-legged being in Nelson's life? Many thanks, Sandra S., for taking on his nametag sponsorship.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Nelson darf bleiben!

About Nelson

What life with Nelson looks like

Nelson is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
