Nelson

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Nelson is a friendly male dog who resides in our partner shelter, Hogar de Asis, and is waiting for a loving home where he can live a happy life by the side of people who appreciate him. He was rescued from a Perrera by our animal welfare partner Tere and has been in her care since March 2026. No further information about his past is available to us. Upon arrival at our animal shelter, he was initially fearful and retreated to his pen. It took several days for him to fully trust his two new caretakers, Tere and Josephine, and to enjoy their company and cuddles. Nelson’s eyes speak volumes, and one can see his good nature. He is not a loud dog who runs up to every stranger to seek attention, but a quiet, gentle soul. We wish for him people who truly appreciate this type of dog, for once his heart is won, it is for all time. During cleaning of the pens, all the dogs can share the outdoor run together, and here too, he presents himself calmly. Although he takes his leisurely rounds to fulfill his needs outside, he prefers to lie in the shade afterward and enjoys observing what goes on around him. The wild play and activity of many young dogs do not suit his world; he retreats and observes quietly, like a little dreamer. Nelson gets along well with all the other dogs at our animal shelter, but he does not like overly nervous or provocative dogs. In his new home, an only dog or a small group can reside there, but he can also be happy as a single dog. Nelson is quiet and modest at the animal shelter; he can certainly live in an apartment if taken out regularly to enjoy beautiful walks and sniffs with his human. However, he needs to practice walking on a leash. As he likes to lie outside and observe, he would be very happy with a small garden, a terrace, or a cozy balcony. The most important thing, however, is a soft, warm dog bed and, above all, grounded, loving people who will accompany him on his further life path. People who will go through thick and thin with him, just as he would do for them! Nelson is fully ready to open up to new people and situations; he only needs a little help in the form of patience and guidance to grow into the perfect team with his new people.

About Nelson

What life with Nelson looks like

Nelson is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
