Nemo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

MALE, born 10/2024, affectionate-person-oriented in 16816 Neuruppin Nemo is a 10/2024 born herding dog-mixed breed with a shoulder height of approximately 65 cm. and weighs approximately 40 kg. Nemo came as a puppy from Bulgaria and could immediately move to a couple in Germany. Unfortunately, Nemo now has to leave this home for personal reasons. Nemo is very lively and knows all basic commands. However, age-appropriately he is currently questioning a lot and clearly shows that he sees things differently. Nemo has difficulties walking on a leash, gets easily and gladly distracted and finds his environment too interesting to respond to commands or signals from the person at the other end of the leash. He consistently ignores this at the moment. Nemo is used to a private property where he can move freely. He generally gets along much better with women than with men. Therefore, a consistent female or female couple is sought, for whom consistent leadership is not a foreign word, who set clear rules and boundaries and enforce them. Women who offer him security and show that it is not Nemo who makes the decisions, but the human. So that Nemo knows he can calmly step back because his human does. Nemo must be shown his place in the pack. Currently, he does not quite accept this and takes over the leadership at any time. This is pushing the owner to her limit, since the male is basically being scolded by Nemo and growls at him, so threatens him, and this is happening more and more. This is no longer acceptable for the couple and the desperation is great, dog training has unfortunately not been able to help the harmonious coexistence so far. He has few problems with smaller dogs, but does not get along well with larger ones. Nemo decides based on his sympathy and it can also lead to confrontations. In general, Nemo has developed problems with resource defense, especially regarding his place, his food and he defends his owner. Nemo has a strong protective instinct, which must be stopped/redirected. Ideally with the help of dog training. Nemo must be given to a consistent individual or a female couple who are familiar with the challenges of raising herding dogs and can handle them. His testosterone plays another role, which is why he is now being neutered shortly. For these reasons, children should not live in the new home; neither should other dogs or small animals. Nemo will not be rehomed in outdoor housing, because he should definitely have a bond with his human(s). Nemo is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped when rehomed. He is currently in 16816 Neuruppin. The adoption fee for Nemo is 460 euros. Do you have the expertise and a suitable home for Nemo? ♂, geb. About Nemo

What life with Nemo looks like

Nemo is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nemo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nemo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nemo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nemo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nemo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nemo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nemo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
