adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Nero is approximately 5 years old – and has unfortunately spent almost his entire life in the shelter. For nearly five years, he has sat alone in his pen, waiting to be seen. Time that no one has been able to give him: In the everyday life with around 70 dogs, there simply isn't the opportunity to work with him and show him that people can also be good. His story is not an easy one. Nero's behavior suggests that he hasn't had good experiences in the past. Initially, he meets strangers with a loud bark and a defensive attitude – a protective mechanism that has likely given him security over the years. He also displays this behavior towards his fellow animals. But when you look closer, you quickly realize: Nero is not a hopeless case. When our German team is on site and takes the time to work with him, a different side of him is revealed. With a little patience – and a few treats – the insecure, defensive male dog suddenly becomes a curious one, standing at the fence wagging his tail and enjoying any form of variation in his dreary everyday life. Over time, he even cautiously takes treats from the hand through the fence – a small but significant step towards trust. Standing at a shoulder height of approximately 55–60 cm, Nero is a sturdy male dog with German Shepherd-like features. Behind his imposing appearance lies a sensitive soul that has had few chances to gather positive experiences. Dogs of this type are often particularly loyal once they have gained trust – but require clear, consistent, and at the same time gentle guidance. For Nero, we are therefore searching for a very experienced, patient home with people who are ready to accept him as he is and allow him to come to terms with his own pace. A quiet, rural environment with a securely fenced garden would be ideal, so he can move around without pressure and gain some initial security. Contact with strangers and fellow animals should not be at the forefront – here, Nero needs time and a gentle training. Nero is still unfamiliar with life in a house and must learn everything step by step. But we are convinced: With the right people by his side, he can learn to trust and rediscover the world. Nero is no ordinary dog – but one that deserves a second chance more than most. By giving him this chance, you will not only be taking in a dog, but also giving a forgotten life a new meaning. A positive adoption would also be a crucial first step for Nero to finally leave the horrors of his past behind. Do you give Nero the chance at a better life? Many thanks, Ursula D.! You have given Nero his beautiful name! Date: 22.03. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Ursula D.! Du hast Nero seinen schönen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 22.03.2026

About Nero

What life with Nero looks like

Nero is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
