Adopt NESS

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 7 years

Year of birth: 2019 NESS certainly had a home once. When he arrived at the animal shelter, he held back for a long time and waited until he was taken out of the room where he first stayed. It's sad, but unfortunately true that the thought may be real that he got lost from his previous owner when it turned out that his loss of vision is total and irreversible (progressive retinal atrophy). He is a large dog of the Labrador type, who despite his disability copes well on walks and would like to have them every day. In the forest, he often surprises with his orientation in the terrain - he finds his way very well in the surroundings and loves to explore. It's beautiful to watch the pleasure he gets from following a scent and checking what it is. Sometimes he likes to rub against you, but also approach a person, check if they're there, and offer himself to be patted. NESS needs a caregiver who is gentle and understanding, especially in new places and situations. This is a dog that greets every person with enthusiasm, impatiently jumping up and wagging his tail like a puppy. Given his size, it looks quite cute and funny! However, his great joy, size, and the fact that he can't see mean that you have to be careful he doesn't bump into a person or knock them over. For this reason, he is not suitable for a home with small children or elderly people. This excess of energy sometimes turns into nipping, so it is important to work on reducing this excess. In relationships with other dogs, he often shows his stubbornness, barking, jumping, and often pulling strongly. This is probably a fearful warning, as due to his visual difficulties, he tries to react in advance to potential threats. Therefore, we are looking for a home without other animals. At the animal shelter, he is surrounded by dogs, noise, and barking. Something is always happening, someone is going somewhere, and he doesn't know what, how, or where. It is very difficult for him to find his way in this situation. Fortunately, there are also moments when he lies down and rests when the animal shelter is quiet. We would like him to have as many of these moments as possible. In a new, calm home, he should quickly return to the positive behaviors he knows. NESS is an amazing dog, ideal for someone who has experience with blind dogs and will appreciate his unique character, giving him a wise, safe, and loving home. If you are looking for a loyal companion who, despite the hardships of life, is full of positive energy and can enjoy simple things, our Nesio is waiting just for you!

About NESS

What life with NESS looks like

NESS is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting NESS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about NESS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw NESS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt NESS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is NESS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if NESS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know NESS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
