Newton

Male · Adult · 8 years

We have decided to start looking for a home for Newton - a difficult dog whose adoption requires great caution, experience, and understanding of the case. A few years ago, Newton was surrendered to an animal shelter by his owners due to aggressive behavior. We don't know his exact history, but we know that often dangerous behaviors of dogs result from improper owner approaches, and unfortunately, this was the case here. The beginning at the animal shelter was not easy for him. Newton was resigned and scared. When he finally trusted the caregivers and his volunteers, a serious accident occurred. Newton attacked and seriously bit our volunteer. To this day, we have not discovered a clear cause of such behavior. However, it is worth noting that this was a person who had not previously taken him for walks. After this unpleasant incident, Newton was under the care of only his caregiver for a while, and gradually, his volunteers began taking him for walks again. First one volunteer, then gradually new people. We managed to rebuild mutual trust and are trying to provide him with as much comfort as possible in shelter conditions. We have developed rules and rituals, which make both sides feel safe. We try to be attentive to the messages he conveys. Since the situation described above, there have been no more attempts to attack a person or show aggressive behavior. At the beginning, however, he made it clear several times what he didn't like. Currently, if Newton gets to know someone well and grants them his trust, walking with him is a real pleasure. He is still distrustful towards strangers. We don't know if, feeling threatened, he might respond with aggression. However, we very much want to give him a chance for a home. In recent years, he has made great progress. We believe he is ready for a change. We are looking for caregivers with experience in dealing with a difficult dog who has had episodes of aggression towards humans. Those who will follow the set rules and will be able to develop a relationship with Newton based on mutual respect and trust. The future home must be prepared for a long adoption process. The meeting may take even a few months. We know that this requires a lot and finding a home for such a dog is extremely difficult. But we believe that somewhere in the world there is a place and people with whom our Newton will finally find happiness.

Newton zaatakował i poważnie pogryzł naszą wolontariuszkę. Najpierw jedna wolontariuszka, a potem stopniowo nowe osoby.

About Newton

What life with Newton looks like

Newton is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: History of human aggression - requires very experienced handler and extensive introduction period

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Newton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Newton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Newton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Newton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Newton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Newton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Newton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
