Adopt Nico

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 16 months

by Kennels | Aug 27, 2025 | Dogs, Liverpool, Male, New Resident Liverpool, Dogs, Liverpool, Male, New Resident, Youngsters Yesterday we welcomed Nico into the rescue. His family were devastated to bring him in but due to the owners ill health, they knew it was the right thing to do for Nico. Nico is still very young & super friendly, although he finds everything a little scary at times, he will soon find his favourite toy to bring you. Nico currently weighs in around 28kg. He will need an owner who can help build his confidence & continue the training we will start with him, mostly around walking nicely on lead. He gets so excited to get out & about, he forgets you are attached to the other end – do not let this put you off with a little time, patience & guidance, we are sure he will master this in no time. Nico has mixed with children, with no issues but he does get a little over excited & forgets his size so definitely dog savvy kids. He has previous lived with a cat, so although we cannot guarantee he will be good with all cats, its a good start. Nico hasn’t spent much time alone in the home, there as always been someone home so he does struggle being left & he would need an owner who is home most of the time, that are willing to do some work with crate training him. Exclusive merchandise available direct from the rescue. Don't miss out, follow the link to make your purchase today.

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Freshfields Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Freshfields Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Freshfields Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
