Nico

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 5 months

Nico is a charming little boy with big dark eyes, black fur and a small white spot on his chest. The approximately 3.5-month-old male lives in Fantanele, Romania, and is waiting for the chance to travel to a new home. He will probably reach a medium size when fully grown. His life started far from being protected. Nico was found in a forest with his seven siblings and two adult females on the way to the shelter. Fortunately, the little dog family was discovered and brought to safety. Despite this start, Nico shows himself as a cheerful and uninhibited little dog boy. He is friendly, curious, playful and very people-oriented. He has not shown any shyness so far - quite the opposite: he enjoys attention and enjoys being close to people. Age-appropriately, he wants to play, discover and find out what the world has to offer. Now he only needs a family of his own, with whom he can do just that. Because of course Nico does not know life as a family dog yet. Housebreaking, leash training, staying alone, everyday noises and all the rules of living together must be learned. His future people should therefore have enough time, patience and understanding for a puppy. Small mishaps and the one or other creative puppy idea will certainly be part of it. After a sufficient acclimatization period, a visit to a positively working dog school would be a nice opportunity to learn the dog ABC together, gain further positive experiences and grow together as a human-dog team. And from the little dog child, a pubescent young dog will become faster than expected. Then rules can suddenly be questioned again and already learned things seem to be blown away sometimes. Nico also wants to be accompanied lovingly, patiently and consistently through this exciting development phase. We wish Nico people who consciously embark on the adventure puppy and give him not only a home, but a place in the middle of their lives. People who want to learn, laugh and discover the world with him and also stay by his side when the cute little puppy has grown into an adult dog. Nico travels unspayed, vaccinated, chipped, dewormed and flea-free with his EU pet passport to his new home.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Nico

What life with Nico looks like

Nico is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
