Night &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

I am male, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and born around 2012. I have been waiting for a new home since November 2017. I am approximately 65 cm tall. My caretakers say about me: Night is the intake of a friendly animal shelter. At our area, Night lives with a female dog, and Night is incompatible with male dogs. To be more precise, Night is more of a loner and does not necessarily have to be rehomed as a second dog. A family where he takes the main role would suit him better. If a female dog is present, compatibility with others must be tested beforehand. Children should also be older, and other pets in the household are not his thing. Outside of his shelter, Night is the classic laid-back Newfoundlander, easily settled, and watches his territory with imposing presence after getting used to it. We are convinced that if he gets the chance to leave the shelter life behind, he will be a balanced and laid-back hound. Generally, it seems that Night is used to moving his head or his body as he pleases. Thanks to the weight he brings, he has often succeeded in doing so. So some walks are shorter than usual, and we are working on getting rid of this habit. When on a leash, Night is calm, even towards belligerent fellow animals, behind the fence, he is a classic male dog, knowing who he is. Except for the occasional backward step, he is well leash-trained. Treats he takes with reserve and caution, one can hardly imagine how much gentleness lies within that giant.

About Night &#8211

What life with Night &#8211 looks like

Night &#8211 is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Night &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Night &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Night &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Night &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Night &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Night &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Night &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
