Nija

Mixed Breed · Female

Good morning! My name is Nija. I’m a small female dog, born around 2019. I arrived at the shelter on July 11, 2026. It all started with a report that I’d been found near the “Kłos” area. A shelter worker came to pick me up, but the truth soon came to light: I wasn’t a stray or lost dog at all. The person who reported me was a family member with whom I’d been living until then. I couldn’t understand why I’d suddenly been left alone. When I crossed the shelter’s gate, I was terrified. My body was covered in fleas, and I had a collar with spikes around my neck. I was afraid of people, new sounds, and everything around me. I felt completely lost and didn’t know what to expect. Today, things are already a bit better. I still need time to trust others. I’m not the kind of dog who’ll immediately run up for a pet and jump onto someone’s lap. First, I need to be sure nothing bad will happen to me. I need a moment to approach more slowly. I need patience—enough time to ask for touch on my own terms. And once I start feeling safe... my tail begins to wag happily, showing just how much warmth my little heart holds inside. I dream of a home where no one expects courage from me right from day one. A home with someone who’ll let me open up at my own pace, who’ll celebrate every tiny step I take, and who’ll show me that trust can last forever. I believe there’s someone out there who’ll see beyond my fear—and recognize me not just as a scared dog, but as a friend for life, through thick and thin. I’m vaccinated and dewormed. Soon, I’ll also undergo spaying surgery. After that, there’ll be just one thing left that I truly long for—my very own home. If you have the patience, calmness, and a heart ready to love a dog who’s still learning to trust, come meet me. Maybe I won’t approach you right away. Maybe I’ll need a few extra moments. But if you give me the time, I’ll give you my whole doggy heart in return. I’m waiting for you.

Dzień dobry! Mam na imię Nija. Jestem niewielką suczką, urodzoną około 2019 roku.Do schroniska trafiłam 11 lipca 2026 roku. Potrzebuję cierpliwości, by sama poprosić o dotyk. Jestem zaszczepiona i odrobaczona.

About Nija

What life with Nija looks like

Nija is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nija, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nija?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nija on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nija if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nija already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nija isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nija and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
