Adopt Nika

Female · Young · 3 years

Nika is currently in temporary housing. Nika came to us as a found rabbit. Unfortunately, she was not missed and is now looking for a new home. She shows herself to be very open to humans but is a typical flight animal and does not like to be pressured. She is very curious and enjoys inspecting new things in her enclosure. We have not yet been able to test how she gets along with other animals, as we did not yet have a suitable partner. She is, however, more dominant towards our other female rabbit. For her new home, Nika is looking for a minimum space of 6qm where she can play with her friends. She wishes for a group with other rabbits, either with one or more suitable partners. If interested, we look forward to a detailed email with pictures of your husbandry setup. General inquiries are welcome:

About Nika

What life with Nika looks like

Nika is a small young adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
