adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Adoption prerequisites Nika can stay forever in your foster home! Her story: Our lovely Nika came to Germany over 7 years ago. Now she is searching for a new home and was placed in a foster home. When Nika arrived at her foster home, she was incredibly stressed and full of fear and anxiety. She had lost trust in people. With much patience and finesse, the foster home Nika managed to convey safety to her and won her heart. Now she walks well on a leash and handles her unpleasant situations better here. Strangers and other dogs make her feel insecure, and here she needs the support of her trusted person. She gladly accepts it. Fortunately, Nika has an unbridled curiosity and is very attentive. On her foster home, she is also known as a little hard worker 😉. Nika will certainly continue to shed her insecurities if given enough time and trust. However, a normal dog life will never be the life of the sweet mouse. She lived her first weeks of life with her mother and siblings in a sheltered environment from the outside world, so she cannot handle the many, many stimuli that bombard her daily with the same calmness as other dogs. After a step-by-step and empathetic adaptation, Nika adjusts well to everyday life and enjoys her life. Visitors are still a topic for her new people to work on. Here, the mouse is still very insecure and feels uncomfortable when strangers are in her home. In her foster home, Nika enjoys being stroked and cuddles for her life. Nika is a delicate and sensitive mouse who must be understood. Her heart must be won – but then it is forever! For Nika, we wish for a quiet and constant environment and loving people who give her the time she needs. There should be no children in the house, as they unsettle Nika too much. A safe only dog would be nice, but it is not a must.

About Nika

What life with Nika looks like

Nika is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
