Nikita

Mixed Breed · Male

NIKITA, born 2019 (vaccinated, neutered) Our pretty Nikita is now also searching for a new home. What we wish for him: a loving home that lets him settle in with peace, gives him plenty of attention, and yet does not overwhelm him at the beginning. Nikita should have experienced people by his side who can handle him correctly and understand his body language. Even though we at the animal shelter have not noticed anything yet, we want to be open and transparent and point out that Nikita was given to the animal shelter due to aggressive behavior. His former owner did not take this step lightly but has been working through it for a long time. Ultimately, she always came back to the point that it is not good enough for Nikita at her place and the issues do not stop if she does not change the situation. For us, one reason could be the too early separation from his cat mom and his siblings, who were only about 8 weeks old, which did not socialize him well enough. Additionally, Nikita was kept as a single cat without a fellow animal. He only had limited free roam on a harness when his owner took him outside. For us in animal protection, a completely wrong way to keep a cat, as these sensitive beings are actually very social and gregarious, and without a partner, they grow up incorrectly and then learn behavioral problems through maladaptations. Often, cats show their sadness or frustration through dirtiness, excessiveness (aggression against themselves, other animals, or even against people). With this knowledge, we want to make it better for Nikita now and find his dream home. He deserves a great home and will surely start anew and confidently. His acclimation should happen with patience and peace, and after settling in, he should be given the opportunity for free roam in a quiet environment. The free roam will tire him out and provide the input that he, as a single cat in a pure household, has been lacking and left him very unhappy. If you have become curious and want to know more about Nikita – feel free to contact us via our cat email, or directly at the animal shelter!. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Nikita

What life with Nikita looks like

Nikita is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Vaihingen in Vaihingen an der Enz.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nikita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nikita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Vaihingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nikita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nikita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Vaihingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nikita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nikita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Vaihingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nikita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
